Dogs are near and dear to the hearts of team Rough Draft and while we still can’t let them inside, we’re very excited to celebrate them with Anna Heyward and her new book Living With Freddie: How a Dog Taught Me to Be Human! Anna will be in conversation with Carolyn Kormann for an evening of reading and chatting all about our canine companions. Books will be for sale—this event is free and open to the public, but please do pick up a copy of the book or a snack or both!!

Anna Heyward worked on the editorial staff of The New Yorker and has an MSc in animal behavior and welfare science at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. Her writing has also been published in The New York Times, The New York Times Book ReviewT, The Paris Review, and Vogue, among others. She was born in Melbourne, Australia and lives in New York.

Carolyn Kormann is an award-winning journalist, author, and editor who has covered the environment and biodiversity from all over the world. She writes for The New Yorker about climate change, energy, politics, science, swimming, food, and books, and earlier in her career there, served as a web editor and as co-deputy head of the magazine's fact-checking department. Kormann is a MacDowell Fellow and has also published articles in The New York Times, New York, Harper’s, Porter, NPR Music, and Dædalus (the journal of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences). She is currently a story editor at Now Voyager, a new print magazine of international reporting, and a Ferris Professor of Journalism in Residence at Princeton University. Her book, Bat, will be published in 2027.
