Local Author Showcase: Featuring Local Poets

  • Rough Draft Bar & Books 82 John Street Kingston, NY, 12401 United States (map)

Join us for a Local Author Showcase!

We’ve invited several local poets to Rough Draft Bar & Books for a meet and greet event. Each author will have their own space to greet customers. Visitors to Rough Draft are encouraged to engage with the authors, learn about the books, and take home a signed copy if they wish, and of course sample some of Rough Draft’s delicious drinks and snacks!

This month’s featured authors:

Lissa Kiernan is the founding director of The Poetry Barn, a pollinator habitat for poetry in the Catskills. Her second collection of poetry, The Whispering Wall, won Homebound Publications' Poetry Prize and was a semi-finalist for the Dorset Prize. Kiernan deftly weaves her own personal narrative into the lives of other artists, historical events, computer systems, and mythological figures so that the collection subtly expands the dimensions of what the self means.

Guy Reed won the 2022 Littoral Press poetry prize and is author of Second Innocence, a collection of poems that deal with art, death, and living with grief.

Lisa St. John is a writer living in the Hudson Valley. Her book, Swallowing Stones, is a free verse and formal poetry collaboration with philosophy and art to tell the story of finding a way from grief into the world again.

Anique Taylor is a writer who is involved with local poetry readings, the Poetry Barn, and galleries. Her book, Where Space Bends, brings alive the story of a woman who lives by herself in an enchanting, rural mountain hamlet; bookended and woven throughout is the shadow of Lyme Disease.

Mary Louise Kiernan is a member of Calling All Poets and the Woodstock Poetry Society. Her book, The Gift of Glossophobia, paints vignettes of one person’s relationships, successes and difficulties with love, tumultuous moments and opportunities missed out of fear of speaking her mind.

David Gonzales is a storyteller, a musician, a poet, and a playwright. His debut collection, Soundings, is an eclectic collection that dives into five facets of his experience, each one adding a new layer of meaning and color.

Reservations are not required to attend this meet and greet, and reserving at ticket on Eventbrite does not guarantee a seat. (Reservations are still appreciated, however; they help us stay in touch and communicate changes if needed, and they give us an idea of how many people to expect.)
